Kathleen T. Nevins December 28, 1932 — April 5, 2024 Oshkosh Kathleen Theresa Nevins (nee McDonagh) passed away peacefully April 5, 2024 in Oshkosh, Wis. after a short illness. Kathleen was born on Dec. 28, 1932 in Manhattan to James and Bridget McDonagh. She met the love of her life James Nevins at an ice cream parlor when she was 17. She and James married on May 8, 1954 in Manhattan. Kathleen and James moved to northern Virginia early in their marriage and raised their four children in Alexandria. Kathleen stayed home with her children when they were young, and entered the workforce in 1969 where she worked at The Hartford Company until she retired in 1988. Kathleen loved painting, gardening, working with plants, doing crafts, shopping, and being with her family and friends. She spent most of her adult life in northern Virginia and moved to Fredericksburg in 1995 after her husband James passed away to be closer to her son James (Maureen) Nevins. Kathleen moved to Oshkosh, Wis. in 2005 to be closer to her son Brian (Mary) Nevins. In recent years, she enjoyed bingo and other activities held at her residence, Bethel Home. Kathleen will be missed dearly by her four children. She is survived by her children: Kathleen (Greg) Childs of Rock Hill, S.C.; Brian (Mary) Nevins of Oshkosh, Wis.; James (Maureen) Nevins of Fredericksburg, Va.; and Terence Nevins of Alexandria, Va. Kathleen is survived by her 10 grandchildren: Jennifer (Lance) Robeson of Jacksonville, Fla.; Michelle (Simon) van Steyn of Arlington, Va.; Maureen (Michael) Alley of Waunakee, Wis.; Chris (Emilie) Nevins of Neenah, Wis.; Nicholas Childs of Washington, D.C.; Margaret Nevins of Sun Prairie, Wis.; Conor Nevins of Charlotte, N.C.; Kerry (Emily) Nevins of Dumfries, Va.; Andrea Nevins of Aldie, Va.; and Maria Nevins of Aldie, Va. Kathleen also had 10 great grandchildren, and many other family and friends. Kathleen was preceded in death by her husband, James; her sister, Mary; brother, James; parents; mother- and father-in-law; and paternal and maternal grandparents. Visitation will be held at 8 a.m. on Friday, April 19, 2024 at Demaine Funeral Home in Alexandria, Va. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 10:30 a.m. at the Basilica of Saint Mary in Old Town Alexandria with Father Hathaway presiding. Family and friends are invited to enjoy a lunch in Kathleen’s honor at the funeral home following burial. Kathleen’s family sincerely thanks the staff at Bethel Home for their care and compassion over the past few years as Kathleen called Bethel her home.
