Marion Elaine Moon, 82, of Alexandria, Va., passed away suddenly on April 1, 2024 at her home in Old Town. Marion was born Sept. 27, 1941 to William B. Henderson and Myrtie Radford in Nashville, Tenn. The family moved to Alexandria in 1951 where Marion attended George Washington High School. Marion was formerly married to Norman Moon and had two sons, Craig and Rick. As a single mother, Marion became the first female leasing manager for the Chrysler Corporation. She went on to found Convention Tradeshow and Freight Specialists (Convention Freight Services) with her son Rick. For more than 50 years, Marion served as a volunteer, board member and generous financial supporter for dozens of nonprofit organizations. She was the first female board member of the Alexandria Sportsman’s Club and served as its second female president. Marion founded the George Washington Legacy Foundation and established the Alexandria Firefighters Foundation. Over the years Marion served on the boards of the John Leland Center for Theological Studies, the Fork Union Military Academy, United Community Ministries, Northern Virginia Aid and Restoration (OAR) and the Old Dominion Boat Club. In 2018 Marion was named a Living Legend of Alexandria. A devout Christian, Marion was a member of First Baptist Church of Alexandria for 70 years. Marion was predeceased by both of her sons. Craig Moon died in 2009 and Rick Moon died in 2013. She is survived by her brother, Jim Henderson, and his wife Ginny of Leesburg, Va., sisters Barbara Hadley of Deltona, Fla., and Cheryl Oaks of Mayfield, Ky., and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Monday, April 15, 2024 at First Baptist Church of Alexandria, 2932 King Street, Alexandria Va. 22302 (wear pink!), In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rick Moon Scholarship Fund of the Alexandria Sportsman’s Club, P.O.
