Marjorie Grice Vanmeter, 92, passed away on March 1st, 2026, in Alexandria, Virginia. Born in Asheville, NC and raised in St. Augustine, Florida, Marjorie grew up in a close-knit community that shaped her deep devotion to family, service, and the Catholic faith. She attended Saint Joseph Academy in Saint Augustine and continued her education at Florida State University and at Georgetown University.
Marjorie dedicated her life to her faith, her family, and to causes that upheld the dignity and sanctity of human life.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 54 years, Larue Vanmeter Jr. of Falls Church. Together they lovingly raised their three children, Marjorie Ann Brown, Mary Vanmeter Hunt, and Robert Edwin Vanmeter in Alexandria, in the cherished community of Old Town and as devoted members of the Basilica at Saint Mary’s Parish.
She leaves behind her children; her beautiful grandchildren, Kevin, Clay, Henry, Ian, and Tyler; and her great-grandchildren, Layla and Liam, who will remember her for her unwavering faith, gentle wisdom, and enduring love. Her legacy lives on in the generations she so lovingly nurtured.

Visitation at Demaine Funeral Home, 520 S. Washington Street, Alexandria, VA, Monday, March 9th from 4:00pm-8:00pm, Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Basilica of Saint Mary’s Church, 310 S. Royal St., Alexandria, VA. Tuesday, March 10th at 10:30am. Interment St. Mary’s Cemetery.
