Marty was born on July 30,1961 to Gus and Sheila (Blinkhorn) Cianciolo in Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He had many wonderful childhood experiences as an Army Brat. Moving many times (15 in all) with his family throughout eastern and central United States. That experience helped form his cheerful, outgoing personality. Marty made friends easily. He excelled in school and athletics. He enjoyed math, football, track and pole vaulting in high school. In addition, he became a passionate musician. He taught himself to play the guitar and the harmonica. He played for friends, at many public gatherings, for Sunday masses in high school and college.
After graduating from Monmouth High School in New Jersey in 1979, Marty continued his education at Ohio University (OU) in Athens, Ohio. While enjoying his studies, he discovered a new passion-the great outdoors. He spent many weekends camping and hiking with friends in Hocking Hills, Ohio. In 1983, he earned a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from OU with honors.
Marty joined the General Electric Company Aircraft Engine Business Group and was a participant in G.E.’s Advanced Course in Manufacturing working towards a Master Degree Program from the University of Cincinnati.
At the young age of 22, Marty sustained a traumatic brain injury which altered the course of his life. However, he did not allow this injury to define him. He fought to regain many of the daily abilities that many of us take for granted. He still smiled, laughed, prayed, enjoyed eating, drinking, listening to music and being with people he loved. His trust in the Lord helped provide amazing strength. Even though disabled, he was able to show unconditional love and joy even during the most difficult times.
Marty was a joy and he will be remembered fondly by his family and friends.
Marty was preceded in death by his devoted father, LTG. Gus Cianciolo. He is survived by his loving mother, Sheila Cianciolo; sister, Teri (Jim) Henderson; brother; Tony (Erin )Cianciolo; nieces, Jenn, Adriana; nephews, Alex, Chris, Dominic and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
