
Maryellin Caroline (Lynn) Webb, 84, beloved wife of (ret) Colonel George Stanley Webb, Jr. , loving mother of seven children, and devoted Catholic, died of breast cancer Feb. 8 at her home with her family by her side.
Lynn was born on July 11, 1927 in Pottsville, PA. She grew up in Wilmington, DE where she graduated from the Ursuline Academy.
She married George Webb on February 11, 1949, at the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris, France and thus began her career as a homemaker and military wife that spanned 30 years and 17 assignments. Lynn passionately loved her family and her Catholic Faith.
Lynn was a pro-life activist having shown her love for the unborn and men/women who have suffered by abortion through participation in peaceful demonstrations, lobbying of her congressmen, and prayer vigils outside abortion facilities.
Lynn enjoyed painting tremendously. She received her training at Berte Art School in Philadelphia and was a fine arts major at Tampa University. She studied at the Delaware Art Center, the Philadelphia Industrial School of Art and later in Germany where her husband was stationed. She designed greeting cards, sweaters and did free lance newspaper work and worked in advertising. She participated in numerous Art Shows throughout the country and had several one-woman shows. She was owner and manager of the “The Art Gallery” in Manassas, VA. She was a published author of a child’s book that she wrote and illustrated.
Lynn was a long time parishioner at St. Louis Catholic Church in Alexandria. She was a member of the Legion of Mary. Lynn had deep admiration and love for the religious and in particular Priests and our Poor Clare Nuns in Alexandria, VA.
Lynn had a great love of tennis, playing as often as she was able. She coached the St. Mary’s Academy (Alexandria) Tennis Team.
Lynn was very active in many volunteer church ministries, as well as military family support groups, throughout her life.
She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Devoted survivors include her husband of 63 years, George Webb Jr., and children George Webb III (Mary), Heather Webb, Matthew Webb (Karen), Mary Cummings (Dan), Peter Webb (Claire), and Geneva Park (Jim); 21 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her beloved son, James.
