Norma Floyd-Sayles died suddenly April 20th, 2026 in Alexandria, Virginia. She was born in 1963 in Sumter, SC to the late Herman E. Floyd and Dorothy Floyd Bolig. She graduated from RB Stall High School, earned a bachelor’s degree from Linfield College and later a Masters in Business Administration from Walden University.
She proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1984 To 1988 as a Military Police Sergeant, earning awards in marksmanship and good conduct. She was the first woman Marine to complete SWAT training, an opportunity she was always quietly, modestly proud of. After her honorable discharge following injury, Norma followed her passion for the criminal justice system and proceeded to work in the Linn County Oregon judicial system assisting justices to standardize sentencing practices.
After moving to the east coast, she served as a consultant to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and later the United States Postal Inspection Service. In 2009, she founded her own government contracting company, Charleston Associates Inc., which she ran successfully for 17 years. In her own words, she was “a person of possibilities”, and had both the dreams and the drive to grow her small business.
She is survived by her beloved daughter, Ashley Sayles, a brother, Chuck Floyd, a sister, Deidre Parker, and her partner, Robert Cull. Norma was also loved and adored by two “adopted” daughters, Corie Mayle and Hazel Stephens, and by her Uncle Bill Bulleit and Aunt Barbara Bulleit, who were basically her adopted parents for most of her life. And Bella loved her, too.
Norma was always on the go, kayaking, biking, traveling and bringing her joy to family and friends. As she’d always dreamed, Norma had become a world traveler, experiencing Ireland, Germany, Greece, Belgium, the Netherlands, and more with wonder and a sunny smile. Everywhere she went, Norma’s abiding kindness, infectious enthusiasm, and generosity of spirit was known by many many friends.
In lieu of flowers contributions in her name can be made to the Childhelp charity.
On Saturday, May 9th, friends and family are welcome to gather for visitation at 11 a.m. with a celebration of her life beginning at 1 p.m. at the Demaine Funeral Home, 520 South Washington Street, Alexandria, Virginia.
