Growing up, Bob excelled in swimming and had a talent for words, entertaining his friends with funny stories and comedy routines. At an early age, he knew he wanted to join the Coast Guard. After graduating from High School, he joined the Coast Guard and served the Coast Guard in various capacities for over 50 years. Bob retired from the Coast Guard in 1995 with over 30 years active duty, achieving the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He subsequently worked on Coast Guard projects as a contractor and later as a civilian employee until his retirement in September 2015.
Bob was pilot, a Harley rider, a poet, and an author. His talent for writing led to many poems and to being the author of three published books for children: “Bonnykin Bee”, Bonnykin Bee’s Christmas”, and “Don’t Come Home with Dirty Feet”. Another book called “Ruff-Ruff and Fido” was being worked on with his illustrator.
Bob was a man of honor and integrity. He will be remembered for his gentleness, kindness and quirky sense of humor.
In addition to Nancy, his loving partner of many years, he is survived by his former wife, Cynthia Hartmann, his son Christopher, his sister Jane Janeczko and two nephews, Rob and Andy Janeczko.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) Scholarship Fund or the American Heart Association.
