Sally I. Buikema

Sally Inge Buikema passed away November 17, 2024. She was a pillar of the Old Town Alexandria community, was a friend to many, and will be missed by all. Sally was pre-deceased by her husband David Buikema. Born in La Junta, CO on May 9, 1942, the daughter of Betty and Reuben Inge, Sally is survived by her daughters, Susan Buikema-Miller (Scott), Dr. Kathryn Buikema (Nicolas Roueche), step-daughters Robin Bunting (Bud), and Elizabeth Ison, her grandchildren Jon, Connor, and David Bunting; Kara and Kyle Miller; and Fiona and Cecily Roueche. A graduate of the University of Denver, Sally served every Republican President from Richard Nixon through George W. Bush, she was a proud member of the Senior Executive Service, and she worked in leadership positions on Capitol Hill. Donations can be made in Sally’s honor to the Koshare Foundation at www.kosharefoundation.org. A visitation will be held at Demaine Funeral Home on January 30 from 4-7 pm and the funeral will be on January 31 at 10 am at the Basilica of St. Mary at 310 South Royal Street in Alexandria, VA. She will be laid to rest at Ivy Hill Cemetery. A reception will follow.
