

Sandra “Sandy” Adams Ballard, age 69, passed away on Sunday, August 9 in Alexandria, VA. Born on July 20, 1946 in Paris, TN to Juanita and Jim Adams, she graduated from the University of Memphis and married James E. Ballard in 1968. She taught elementary school and ran the library for a Memphis inner-city school in the late 1960’s before moving around the country with her husband while he served active duty in the US Air Force. Mr. and Mrs. Ballard raised their children in Medina, OH where she served on the boards of the Medina YWCA and the Medina High School Boosters Club as well as volunteered with Meals on Wheels and Hospice. She was also a substitute teacher in the Medina City School System.
Mrs. Ballard is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, James E. Ballard, daughter Kristine “Kristy” Ballard Kalo, son Jim E. Ballard, Jr., mother Juanita Adams, brothers Jim and John Adams, son-in-law Ted E. Kalo, daughter-in-law Jaime L. Ballard and four grandchildren who were the light of her life, Sarah Kalo, Lucas Kalo, Mason Ballard and Carter Ballard. In addition her son and daughter-in-law are expecting Mrs. Ballard’s fifth grandchild, a daughter, in November of this year.
Mrs. Ballard’s family is grateful for her strength while she battled illness for the last year of her life.
Services will be held at 11:00 am Monday, August 17 at Demaine Funeral Home in Alexandria, VA. A private burial at Arlington National Cemetery will be held on Thursday, September 24, 2015 at 1:00 pm.
