September 30, 1992 – November 2, 2025
Thomas Johnson Farrell, 33, of Alexandria, Virginia, passed away on November 2, 2025, in his hometown.
Tom is survived by his parents, Jim and Julie Farrell, and his beloved siblings and their spouses: Mary Plue (Jordan), Mac Farrell (Kerri), Colleen Farrell, Danny Farrell (Kinjal), Grace Bayliff (Calvin), Jimmy Farrell, and Charlie Farrell. He is also lovingly remembered by his nephews and niece—Jack, Wilson, Mitchell, Isaiah, Juliette, and Conrad—as well as his grandparents, Elizabeth Farrell and Jim and Carol Johnson.
Tom graduated high school from Bishop Denis J. O’Connell, Falls Church, VA and Marymount University in Arlington, VA with a Bachelor of Business Administration. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps as a Tactical Vehicle Operator, Military Police Officer, Ammo Driver, Machine Gunner, and Corporal and received a Meritorious Mast Award. His faith was central to his life; he was a devoted Catholic attended the Basilica of St. Mary’s in Alexandria.
A fierce competitor, Tom loved every sport and any game that challenged him. He played football at Bishop O’Connell and was a member of the Marymount University Golf Team. Whether it was pool, chess, darts, or anything that could be won, Tom loved to win — and more often than not, he did. Beyond the competition, he had a deep love for the outdoors, travel, and adventure. One of his proudest accomplishments was hiking the Camino de Santiago.
Tom was a person of remarkable presence and confidence. From a young age, he approached life with boldness, charisma, and conviction. His charm and energy drew people in, and his warmth made him a friend to everyone he met.
In adulthood, life brought Tom challenges that few can imagine. When schizophrenia entered his world, it reshaped his path in ways that demanded extraordinary strength and humility. The disease was cruel — twisting his world and testing his spirit in heartbreaking ways. Yet through it all, Tom never stopped fighting. He kept getting back up. He kept trying. That was Tom — strong, stubborn, and brave to the end.
Though his journey was marked by struggle, it was also filled with courage, love, and the unbreakable bonds of family and faith. We take comfort in knowing that Tom is now at peace — free from pain, restored in grace, and held in the loving arms of God. His spirit will live on in the many memories he left behind.
The viewing will be held from 6:00PM – 8:00PM on Thursday, November 13, 2025 at Demaine Funeral Home (520 S Washington St, Alexandria, VA 22314).
A funeral Mass celebrating his life will be held on Friday, November 14, 2025 at the Basilica of St. Mary’s Catholic Church (310 S Royal St, Alexandria, VA 22314) at 10:00AM. The interment will immediately follow the funeral Mass at St. Mary’s Cemetery (1000 S Royal St, Alexandria, VA 22314).
