Anne’s journey in life was filled with love, adventure and dedication. She met the light of her life Andrew Flowers at a carnival, and their love story unfolded from there. They were happily married for over forty years, before his passing in 2023.
Anne worked and volunteered tirelessly throughout her life. She began her career with the Government after graduating from Robert E Lee High School in Springfield, VA, and had success as a Floodplain Manager for FEMA, before her retirement in 2004. After she retired, she and Andy moved to Elizabeth City, NC.
She was known as a giving person with a fighting spirit. She had an unwavering commitment for volunteering for many organizations including Girls Inc., Meals on Wheels, and the Albemarle Food Bank. She was involved in Souls Ministry, providing comfort and support to those in need, and found solace in her faith at New Community Church in NC, and then at Avalon Church in Orlando.
Anne loved painting and creating pottery. She had her own brand of Flowers in the Mud pottery. She was involved in the CMA Motorcycle Club, and loved her motorcycle trips with Andy. She loved skiing and snowmobiling during family trips to Lake Tahoe, as well as the beach and boating in Treasure Island. Spending time with family and friends were the most important things to her.
She leaves behind a legacy of love, and cherished memories. She is survived by her sisters Lynn Cobb (Don) and Aimee Jo Gober (Matthew). She had a special bond with her niece Terri Gilbert whom she loved as a daughter, as well as her goddaughter and niece Kelly Lynn Cobb (Kenny Krause), and niece Tammy Kirschman (Douglas), godson and nephew, Jason Dominick Berry (Benjamin Berry), and several great-nieces and nephews. Anne took great joy in her grandchildren, Brittney Scott and Travis Gilbert.
Anne will be forever cherished as a kind, thoughtful and giving person, who brought light into the lives of all of those around her. Her love for family, dedication to her community, and unwavering faith serve as inspiration to us all. May her spirit continue to guide and comfort us in our own journey through life.
Interment will be forthcoming at Sarasota National Cemetery with her beloved husband Andy, and parents, H. Edward Matthews, and Lenore C. Matthews
