Bonnie Jean Bourque, age 73 of Longwood, passed away Saturday, October 10, 2020.

She was born October 11, 1946 in Charlotte, North Carolina and was the only child of Bon and Emma Hinson. She was very close to her cousins during her childhood, especially Sarah, with whom she remained close throughout her life. Bonnie graduated from East Mecklenburg High School in 1964 and went on to attend the University of Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. She graduated with a bachelors degree in Fine Arts in 1969.

Pursuing a career in the performing arts, Bonnie moved to New York City and spent seven years performing in plays on and off Broadway, including The King and I, Lorelei, Smith, and The Desert Song. She continued to be involved in theater and sing in choirs for decades. Her last performance in a stage show was as Aldonza in The Man of La Mancha in 1993.

Bonnie had her daughter, Bethany, in 1986. They were devoted to each other and the best of friends. Bonnie was a loving wife to her love Richard Bourque for 24 years, until his death in 2018. During her daughter’s childhood, Bonnie worked as a homemaker and pursued graduate studies in education. She worked as a substitute teacher for years, while also being involved in her daughter’s school events and extracurricular activities, and continuing to enjoy performing in choirs.

Bonnie was a member of the Catholic Church. She participated in several Bible studies and women’s groups, as well as being a lector, cantor, and choir member at St. Mary Magdalen and Annunciation Catholic Churches for many years.

She is survived by her daughter, Bethany Christian, and her grandson, Tennyson Christian. A gathering of family and friends will be held Saturday, October 24, 2020 from 1-2 PM at Baldwin Fairchild Funeral Home, East Altamonte Chapel with a Celebration of Life service beginning at 2 PM. Internment will follow at All Faiths Memorial Park in Casselberry. Arrangements entrusted to Baldwin Fairchild Funeral Home, East Altamonte Chapel. 994 E. A holiday get-together with my mother Paula Tanner Girard, Bonnie, Bethany, and Bonnie's mother, Emma. Related by Emma's husband, Virgil Lanni (who was related to our family via my paternal grandmother Anna's mother), we were fortunate to have Bonnie and her family nearby in Central Florida to celebrate special occasions as a family. I pray for Bethany and her family's peace during this challenging transition.

My first memories of Bonnie are from seeing her in the 80's with you Bethany. She was so happy to have a child. I hope you can find comfort knowing you brought your mother so much joy. You were the light of her life. She surely knows you and Tennyson love her.

I loved it when Bonnie went on camping trips with our family. While in the car, she would teach us silly songs, and we would laugh and sing for hours. I also loved her sense of humor and the way she looked and sounded when she laughed. The memories of my cousin, Bonnie, are especially dear to my heart.
