On Wednesday, April 24, 2024, Clayton H. Elliott (Worry), loving husband of Elinore B. Elliott (Beulah,) who predeceased him, passed away in Altamonte Springs, FL at the age of 95. Clayton was born on April 1, 1929, in Danvers, MA to the late Mildred (Littlewood) and Donald Elliott. He moved to Topsfield in 1953 where he remained with the love of his life, Elinore, and raised three children Lois Svetin, the late Kimberley Tibbetts, and William Elliott until retiring in 1988. He and Elinore traveled the US in a number of different motor homes, eventually settling in their retirement home in Altamonte Springs, FL.
Clayton had a life we would all envy. He was the second child of 7 siblings, Clifton Elliott, the late Doris Brown, the late Jean Cook, the late Marion Chase, the late Leon Elliott, and David Elliott. He could be seen around Georgetown with his brothers working hard and playing harder. He attended Georgetown Central School, Perley High School, and Bryant & Stratton College. In 1949, he dropped out of college and asked his father to co-sign the purchase of C & C Elliott Fuels in Topsfield which he shared with his brother Clifton and ran successfully until retirement. Two years after buying the business, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War returning home 2 years later. Clayton believed in helping others and was a charter member of the Topsfield Lions Club spearheading many volunteer efforts. In addition, he helped organize the many celebratory holiday parades in Topsfield and helped manage the horse pulling at the Topsfield Agricultural Fair. He had many hobbies and could be found hunting, fishing, cooking, tinkering with old cars, and playing golf. He, in fact, shot his age two separate times. But what he loved most in his life was his wife Elinore. They shared 67 years of marriage traveling, making friends, and having a whole lot of fun. They were a special pair and we all knew if they asked you to stop by while you were in town, it was a serious offer. They would eagerly welcome you in with a meal, a beverage, and a place to lay your head.
Clayton will be remembered by many people including his daughter, Lois Svetin of Altamonte Springs, FL, his son William C Elliott and his wife Carol, of Hawkins, TX. and a son in law, Rickie Tibbetts of North Conway, NH. He has 7 grandchildren and their spouses who proudly call him Grandaddy, Lisa and Bruce Spaulding, Todd and Kimberly Svetin, Marc and Jessa Svetin, Justin and Caitlin Bartlett, Christopher and Christina Bartlett, Kelsey and Jeremy Krzyzanowicz, and Shaylin Elliott. And he will forever be in the hearts of his 12 great grandchildren, Ryan, Alex, Jake, and Kate Spaulding, Erik and Owen Svetin, Madelin Svetin, Breare Bartlett, Elliott and Everett Bartlett, and Hudson and Rhys Krzyzanowicz. He will also be missed by two brothers, Clifton, of Topsfield MA and David and his wife Anne, of Groton, MA, many cousins, nieces, nephews and close friends.
There will be visitation at the Baldwin Fairchild Funeral Home, 994 East Altamonte Drive, Altamonte Springs, FL, from 4-6 on Monday, April 29, 2024. The funeral service will be 12:00 pm on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at Conte-Giamberardino Funeral Home, 14 Pleasant Street, Georgetown, MA. This will be followed by a burial at Harmony Cemetery, 66 Central Street, Georgetown.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Jude in honor of Clayton H. Elliott.
