Doris Jean Long Teague was born April 2, 1944 in Panama City, Florida to Gus and Mary Long. She earned her angel wings on October 2, 2020 in Tavares, Florida at the young and beautiful age of 76 after a lifelong battle of chronic health conditions.
Doris was raised by her parents until her mom died when she was nine. Many family members, her stepmom Dorothy Hulett and her father lovingly raised her until she met Marvin Teague and fell in love. She married Marvin with her father’s permission at a young seventeen years old and remained in love together for the next 58 years.
Doris and Marvin raised three children together – Danny, Stacey and Jeannie in Lockhart, Florida where they lived in their home for more than 50 years. Doris worked as a switchboard operator until the late 1970’s when she became disabled. She recovered, learned to walk again, defying all odds. Doris remained a homemaker helping Marvin with his plumbing business until it closed in 2000 due to his Parkinson’s disease. They cherished living together, caring for each other and their growing family over the next 18 years.
Doris gained three more children when Danny and Sharon, Stacey and Teresa and Jeannie and John Jones all married within one year of each other. She loved all her children but also so many others that knew her as Momma Teague growing up.
Doris loved to garden and be outside. Her special gift was her annual blooming Amaryllis flowers and the twenty-foot cactus in their backyard that withstood the test of time. Doris also loved to do puzzles, word unscrambles and play MahJong on her tablet when she couldn’t go outside anymore.
Doris loved animals but especially dogs. Monster, an Akita, was her absolute favorite dog, even when he would playfully drag her around the front yard by her foot. In more recent years, she could be heard singing to the multiple dogs during thunderstorms at Jeannie and John’s home in Eustis where she lived, was cared for and loved deeply in her final years.
Doris cherished her seven grandchildren – Jessica, Kyle, Johnny, Abby, Jenna, Rebekah and Nick. Even more cherished were her great grandchildren Gavin and Meredith that brightened her life with their visits! She also held close to her heart her “angel” great grandchild Aubrey.
Doris lived a life of chronic health conditions. She was a fighter, a survivor. She never gave up. She would deny pain. She beat the odds so many times.
Doris made sure we all knew we were loved. Doris opened up her heart and home to many. She had so much love and sunshine to give. There’s nothing one of her hugs and smiles couldn’t fix.
Doris is survived by her loving husband Marvin, her six children, seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She is dearly missed by all who knew her.
Services for Doris will be held Thursday, October 8th, 2020 at Baldwin-Fairchild West Altamonte Chapel, 90 Weathersfield Avenue, Altamonte Springs, FL 32701. Visitation 10-11am and Service from 11-11:30am followed by a Graveside Service 11:45am at Highland Memory Gardens, Apopka, Florida.
