Ione Jane (Henderson) Magill, 100, passed peacefully on November 26, 2021 at home. She resided in Orlando for 35 years. Jane was born January 25, 1921 in Nashville, TN. She moved to Birmingham, AL. with her parents where she attended high school and later graduated from Birmingham Southern College with an Associate Degree. While at college she was a member of Pi Beta Phi. Shortly after college she met her future husband Jim Magill who was on assignment in Birmingham, AL with Westinghouse Corporation as an engineer and also was a member of the Army Air Corps Reserve. They were married on October 25, 1941.
Jim was called to Active Duty in World War II to fly the Himalayan Supply Route (Hump). Jane returned to Nashville and worked as a Supply Coordinator for aircraft parts. After the war ended Jim and Jane were transferred to various Air Force bases, ending in Atlanta, GA where Jim resumed his career with Westinghouse Company. Jane was an accomplished sportswoman, playing tennis and golf. She enjoyed reading, playing bridge, traveling and supporting Jim’s professional association NACON. Her artistic talents extended to painting, decorating for all holidays, especially Christmas. Jane was a longtime member of P.E.O., a philanthropic organization dedicated to advancement of women. She modeled for various local fashion events.
Jane created a loving, supportive environment for family and friends with her peaceful, positive spirit. She maintained a close relationship with her extended family, cousins in Alabama and Tennessee. She mentored and included many family friends in her immediate circle. Jane’s greatest satisfaction was providing loving, supportive care for her husband and children, enabling them to continue this spirit of caring to their friends and community.
Jane is survived by her loving and devoted children, daughter Mary Jane Magill and son Jim Magill, nephew James Wetmore, and numerous cousins. She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years.
