After a short battle with cancer, Jim Cox, of Apopka Fla., previously of Long Island, New York, passed away on Sunday, July 29, 2018 at the age of 86, alongside his loving family members in Altamonte Springs, Florida.
Jim was born in Houston, Mississippi on September 16, 1931 to the late Albert Cox and Mary L. Cox. He is preceded in death by his wife Mabel R. Cox, sisters Mary Cox Goodman of Hattiesburg, MS, Eloise Cox White of Stewart, MS, and brother Albert Cox of Byhalia, MS.
Jim is survived by his daughter Janine Skipper and her husband Ron Skipper of Longwood, Florida. Sister Zula Cox Porter of San Antonio, Texas. Brothers Ken Norris of Delray Beach, Florida, Arthur Cox of Marriott, Georgia, Hesley A. Cox of Dallasburg, Tennessee, and Talmage E. Cox of Snellville, Georgia. Grandchildren Ronnie James Skipper of Apopka, Florida and Michelle Lynn Skipper of Longwood, Florida.
Jim spent 3 years in the military working as a medic stationed in Europe. After having an honorable discharge, he moved to Long Island, New York where he met his wife Mabel and started his own family. At the age of 39, he brought his family to Florida and worked for Florida Hospital for 25 years until his retirement at the age of 65.
Jim was always an active man never staying in the same place for very long. He spent much of his time outdoors enjoying the sunshine, the beaches, and traveling throughout the states. He was also a Christian and was involved with church activities and helping others.
Jim was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all those who knew him. he was loved by many and will be missed dearly but never forgotten. His memory will live on through his family and the lives he touched.
