Rita M. Miller

Rita M. Miller, 92, of Winter Park, FL passed away on December 10, 2015 at Serenades by Sonata, Longwood, FL. She was born to the late Joseph F. and Edith (Brice) Dorflein in Newport, RI on February 17, 1923. Rita was a dedicated wife to her late husband, a loving mother to her surviving sons, a fantastic mother-in-law, a caring grandmother, and a caregiver to all. She lived a long and fulfilling life. In her early years, Rita was a volunteer civil air patrol pilot providing emergency services during WWII. While Rita worked multiple jobs throughout her lifetime, she was most often a caring mother to her family and a Pre-Kindergarten teacher. She was also a devoted military wife. Rita was a caregiver to her husband, Frank Miller, for the years leading to his passing due to dementia. Frank and Rita were wed on Thanksgiving Day in 1948 and shared 57 wonderful years of marriage together. They went on multiple cruises together, enjoyed traveling, and were devout Catholics. Rita was also an avid reader, swimmer and known for being very creative in all her crafts. She was close with her grandchildren, some of whom she taught to swim among many other things. They taught her how to enjoy life from scalloping to roller coaster riding. Rita was one of the first residents at Serenades where she will be deeply missed by all those whose lives she touched while there. Rita was preceded in her passing by her husband, Frank J. Miller. She is survived by her sons Stephen F. Miller and his wife Charlie, and Michael R. Miller; grandchildren Karen Lawrenson, Suzie Darby, and Christopher Miller; 7 greatgrandchildren; and many others who loved her. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, December 19 at 8:00 AM at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 375 North Sunset Drive, Casselberry, FL 32707 followed by a reception. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
