Susan was born to the late John and Madge Richardson, August 20, 1933 in Huntington, Indiana. At the age of 15, she and her family moved to Seymour, Indiana where she graduated from Seymour High School. During her time at Seymour High, she was an honor roll student and enjoyed playing the clarinet in the marching band. She also liked singing in the high school and church choirs. During her sophomore year, she met her husband, Louis. After graduation, she worked in cost accounting in Columbus, Indiana.
On June 19, 1954, she married Louis. They lived in New York, California and Texas (during his military service). In California, she worked as a photographer’s assistant and sales representative. In 1957, they settled in St. Petersburg, Florida, where she worked for All State Insurance in Accounting. She became a member of Beta Sigma Phi – a non-academic sorority and service organization where she found life-long friends. In 1961, she became the proud mother of Jon. She embraced her life as a homemaker and enjoyed spending many hours at the beach with him.
In 1966, Susan moved with her family to Atlanta, Georgia. There, she joyfully welcomed her second child, Karen. Louis and Susan’s love of Florida returned them to the Winter Park (Orlando area) in 1968. Susan was the office manager for their business, Snyder Industrial Hose. Additionally, she contributed many hours as a PTA volunteer, and Scout Leader for both of her children. She embraced spending time with the local women of Beta Sigma Phi and took on various leadership roles. Susan loved traveling the world, with trips throughout The Caribbean, Europe, Hawaii, Alaska, Australia, New Zealand, The Orient, and South America. She thoroughly enjoyed annual snow skiing trips with her family. Susan learned to appreciate college football and attended Florida State’s home and bowl games, while Karen was a majorette in the marching band. Her happiest moments were spent at their beach condo and being in nature. She loved to plan and host parties, celebrate with family and friends, bake and attend special lunches with her Beta Sigma Phi sisters. Susan cherished her moments with her grandchildren and was elated to meet her great-granddaughter. Her hobbies included reading, playing bridge, photography, taking college courses and learning French.
Celebration of Susan’s Life Ceremony will take place on February 15, 2020 at First United Methodist Church of Winter Park – Marcy Chapel (125 N Interlachen Ave, Winter Park, FL 32789) at 11:00am.
