Virginia “Ginger” L. Newman, 78, of Umatilla, FL passed away on February 23, 2015. She was born in Richmond, KY on October 28, 1936 to her mother, Amanda Holladay. Ginger was a woman of many accomplishments and talents. She was an Architect/Engineer with Lucent Technologies, formerly AT&T, for over 25 years. After her retirement, Ginger maintained 20 acres of land independently, proving her passion for the outdoors, gardening and love of taking care of her land that spanned her lifetime. Ginger loved nature, and nature loved Ginger. She adored horses and would love to ride as well as train. Ginger was a gifted swimmer and was even a gold medalist in synchronized swimming prior to it being an Olympic sport, a talent that she later shared by coaching others. She was a master doll crafter. This medium was chosen so she could showcase her love of genealogy, talent in painting and sewing. She perfected her craft as evident in the many awards earned as she replicated historical museum antique dolls. Even the fabric was historically crafted as she spun her own yarn and dyed wool. Ginger was an active volunteer serving her community in many ways. She served as the president of the Women’s Auxiliary at the American Legion. She ran many fund raisers providing financial support to various organizations and loved to offer her time at the local orphanage. She enjoyed time spent as a 4H Leader sharing her love of animals, agriculture, and sewing. Her passion for life and enjoying it to its fullest was evident in the way she lived and kept active. Ginger will be truly missed, but never forgotten, by those who knew and loved her. She was preceded in her passing by her mother, Amanda. Ginger is survived by her Daughters Valerie Morrissey (Scott) and Victoria Keene (Alan); Grandchildren Lauren Keene, Richard Keene (Jess), and Allie Keene; and Great-Grandchildren Marley Rebecca and Hannah Rose. A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, February 27, 2015 at 2pm at Highland Memory Gardens. Arrangements are under the care of Baldwin Fairchild West Altamonte, www.baldwinfairchildwestaltamonte.com.
