Alvin was born on September 06, 1948 in Montevallo, Alabama to Alvin Sr and Mary Irene Reed.
Alvin served his country as a proud Vietnam Veteran in the Army. He was an Iron worker/welder by trade. He worked many years in construction and maintenance. When he was no longer able to work, he became a volunteer at the Amarillo Veterans Hospital where he served for 14 years. He enjoyed giving back to his fellow veterans and he gained many friends along the way. He enjoyed playing solitaire, fishing, cooking, planting in his garden, and fast cars, especially his GTO. He was a sports fan and enjoyed watching Nascar. He was a fan of westerns and action packed movies, Walker Texas Ranger, and family feud. He loved food and as his grandma once said, "you can never fill him up." Although she tried with cornbread and buttermilk. She also would tell him that she would make him a pie if he would gather blackberries and he would jump up and run out the door to make that happen. He loved music, especially oldies. He loved the 4th of July and popping M-150s. Alvin was known to always have a smile on his face and always shared a “Good Mornin” as he delivered the papers at the VA hospital. He was servant hearted and a cheerful giver. Alvin and his wife, Brenda, were married for 46 years. He was her best friend and he was the love of her life.
Alvin was preceded in death by his parents Alvin Sr and Mary Irene, Daughter Ginger Reed; Brothers John Wayne Reed, William David Reed, Donald Eugene Reed, and Sister Mary Joyce Reed. Those left to cherish his memory are his bride of 46 years, Brenda Reed, Daughters Bailey Cook and husband Eric, Allison “Allie” Reed, Sisters Donna Dickson and husband Cecil; and his grandchildren Collin and Riley Cook.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Amarillo VA Escort Service Volunteers in honor of Alvin Reed.
