Garland Marion Horton, Jr. was born in Dalhart, Texas on September 29, 1943 to Garland “Bunk” Horton and Cordelia “Delia” Horton. He married Christy Loper, his beloved wife, in 1965. Garland and Christy had one daughter, Kimberly Horton. Garland graduated from Texas Tech School of Engineering. He became a talented builder and loved working as an engineer at Pantex from 1968 to 2020. He was proud of the home he built and designed in Lake Tanglewood, in addition to many other homes and businesses in the Texas Panhandle.
Garland was kind-hearted, intelligent and humorous, had a sharp memory and could find the bright side to everything. He was a terrific teacher and always had a wealth of information at his fingertips. Garland was a devoted husband, father, uncle, grandfather and friend. He had a servant’s heart and often put others before himself. He loved those in his life deeply and in his special way. He will be missed greatly by his family, dear friends and loved ones.
Garland is survived by his niece Janice Stoner and her husband Chad; great nieces Alyssa Close and Jill Horton; great-great nephews Cooper and Waylon Close; great-great niece Sadie Close; grandchildren Brandon, Mason, Ian and Ava; and nephews John Horton, Joseph Horton, Jessica Widell, Phillip Widell and Cory Pope. Garland treasured his Yorkie, Shelby Girl, who will continue to be spoiled by family.
Garland was preceded in death by his parents Bunk and Delia Horton; wife Christy Horton; daughter Kimberly Horton; and brother Allen Horton.
In lieu of flowers, Garland would have appreciated donations in his honor to Texas Panhandle Centers (ASCI-Amarillo) or Faith City Missions, two organizations that he was passionate about.
