

Gary L. Arthur of Amarillo, Texas, passed away on January 31, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones. He was 77 years old. Gary was born on October 16, 1947, in Amarillo to Milton and Anna Lee Arthur. He was a lifelong resident of Amarillo, where he attended public schools and graduated from Amarillo College before proudly serving in the United States Army.
Gary met the love of his life, Janet, and the two were married on April 11,1968. Together, they built a life full of love and adventure until Janet's passing two months shy of their 49th anniversary. Gary's family was his world, and he was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He leaves behind his sons, Chris Arthur and his wife Mandie, and Stephen Arthur and his wife Jewel; grandchildren Gary Arthur and his wife Haley, Brogan Arthur, Liam Arthur, and Kristian Arthur; as well as great-grandchildren Grayson Arthur, Emmarie Arthur, Emmitt Arthur, Kaydi Arthur, Gastyn Arthur, Soraya Arthur, and Jeannette Newman.
A passionate and caring man, Gary was a mentor to many young people, always ready to lend a helping hand or offer guidance. He was a skilled carpenter and handyman, able to fix just about anything, and spent much of his time helping others accomplish their dreams. Gary was also an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing whenever he could.
Gary's commitment to his community was unwavering. He served on the Board of Directors for the Texas State Rifle Association and was an active member of the League of Celtic Legion. He was also on the board for the Amarillo Rifle and Pistol Club for over 40 years, where he made lasting connections and left a significant impact on those around him.
Gary’s legacy of kindness, generosity, and dedication to his family, friends, and country will live on in the many lives he touched. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A visitation will be held on Friday, February 7, 2025, from 5-7:30 pm at Griggs Schooler Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 Bell St. A funeral service will take place on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at 9:00 AM, also at Griggs Schooler Gordon Funeral Directors, with military honors provided by Volleys for Veterans.
Gary is preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Janet, his grandson Brent Kevin Sindelar, and his two brothers, John and David Arthur. He is survived by his sons, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many dear friends.
