James Leroy Evans was born February 23, 1936 in Kaufman, Texas to Eber and Lottie Evans. He met and married the love of his life Barbara Phillips on May 22, 1956 and together they had two daughters. He was a loving, caring, hardworking man who enjoyed fishing, woodworking and playing golf but most of all enjoyed spending time with his family. He enjoyed singing whether he knew the words or not that didn’t stop him. As a carpenter he built many churches across Texas, Oklahoma and Colorado. He also built custom homes in the Amarillo area. He was a member of Southlawn Baptist Church for 19 years. He served as a Deacon at Southlawn Baptist Church, Friendship Baptist Church and at Lamont Baptist Church for 30+ years. He will be missed by all who were blessed to know him and be loved by him. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in his name to Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children in Dallas, Cranio Care Bears or Southlawn Baptist Church 4306 South Washington Amarillo 79110.
He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Dean Evans, Jean Evans Henderson, Lloyd Evans, and Kenneth Evans.
He is survived by his wife Barbara, daughters Sherry Holcomb and husband Rick and Glenna Ervin and husband David. Brother Floyd Evans and wife Mary. Grandchildren Erica Marrs and husband Landen, Phil Holcomb and wife Kasie, Austin Ervin and wife BethAnn. Two great grandchildren Grayson Holcomb and Raylan Marrs.
