He passed away October 18, 2021 peacefully surrounded by family at age 89 and 2 months.
After graduating high school he went on to join the U.S. Air Force, serving 11 years as a Crew Chief and Load Master. After exiting the Air Force he moved on to work at the Santa Fe Railroad where he spent 35 years before retiring as a conductor in 1995. John loved playing with his grandkids and great-grandkids. After retiring he spent his time enjoying golf, fishing, reading and watching westerns attending church at Chaparral Hills Baptist Church, reading his bible nightly along with other various activities.
He was preceded in death by parents; Creed and Isabelle Flanary, brothers; Charles and Lavon Flanary.
He was survived by wife Betty, brother; Gene and wife Cinda, sons; Johnny and wife Kaylene Flanary, Buford and wife Katrina Flanary, daughters; Debbie Klose and Jennifer and husband Ken Merritt, 7 grandkids; Jeff, Danielle, Michael, Katie, Zach, Brady and Brett, 3 great-granddaughters; Annabelle, Morrigan, and Charlotte.
