John A Whittington

John Alfred Whittington won his race on December 16, 2021 at the age of 71, in Amarillo, Texas. His battle with serious medical issues in recent years showed his courage in facing all of life’s challenges with a smile and determination. Despite the pain, John came out a hero to his family and friends staying strong until the end.

John was born on August 26, 1950 in Borger, Texas to John Adlai Whittington and Mildred Fay Van Horn. John knew many challenges in his youth but stayed confident and capable.

John met the love of his life, Denise Allison Jones, by happenstance while attempting a double date and it was love at first sight. Denise supported John in every aspect of life until her untimely death in 2009. Together, they had three children: John Alan Michael Whittington, Michelle Annette Ratliff, and Jerry Robert Whittington.

John’s extended family included many friends that came from, The Jeramiah House, Grace Community Church, Trinity Fellowship, and his willingness to talk to just about everyone. John shared his faith with everyone he met, always asking if they knew Jesus. Johns unwavering faith was an inspiration to his friends and family.

John was preceded in death by his Father John Adlai Whittington, Mother Mildred Fay Van Horn, Stepmother Agnes Kent Whittington and Brother Jerry Mikel Whittington.

John was survived by his children John Alan Michael Whittington (Wife Monday Parker-Whittington), Michelle Annette Ratliff (Husband Damen Ratliff), and Jerry Robert Whittington (Wife Sarah Whittington), his grandchildren Ryan Whittington (Wife Megan Whittington), Alacyn Dean (Husband Joshua Dean), Kiersten Morales, Kolton Morales, Isa Whittington, Aayan Whittington, Isra Whittington, Bilaal Whittington, a 3 great grandchildren, and his step-father Richard "Dick" Lee.

John will be honored in a loving celebration of life on December 23, 2021. Visiting hours will be on December 22, 2021, at Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5-7 pm.
