Carolyn (as she preferred to be called) was born in Wichita Falls, Texas on July 9, 1944 to Vada Maud Chappell Davis and James Leland Davis. At the age of 13, Carolyn was baptized into Jesus Christ’s church to which she remained a faithful servant until her last breath. As a child, Carolyn worked on the family farm and attended school in Henrietta, Texas where she graduated in 1962. After graduating, Carolyn moved to Lubbock, Texas. It was in Lubbock that she married the love of her life, Jerry Cogburn, on November 26, 1964. Carolyn and Jerry were blessed with 53 years of marriage in which they selflessly served each other while raising their three children, Galen, Shane, and Marlena in whose lives they actively engaged in school, band, sport, and church events. Carolyn was a trustworthy, dedicated woman who worked many years before retiring from her banking/insurance position at Friona Industries. When Marlena passed from this life, Carolyn, without hesitation, took on the role of Momma to Marlena’s children, Jade and ‘Kai spending many hours after work and on weekends tending to their needs and attending their activities. Carolyn, affectionately called Granny, was also active in her other grandchildren’s lives attending every event she was able to.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Marlena Suzette Cogburn Moore, her parents, Leland and Vada Davis, and her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Arnold and Bonnie Cogburn. Carolyn is survived by her husband, Jerry Cogburn, of Amarillo, Texas; her sister, Eunice Cogburn and husband, Gaylord of Happy, Texas; her brother, Phillip Davis and wife, Bonnie of Buffalo, Texas; her sister Jan Grimes of Amarillo, Texas; her son, Galen Cogburn and wife Devanee of Topeka, Kansas; her son Shane Cogburn and wife Michelle of Amarillo, Texas; her son-in-law, Jimmy Moore and wife Stacey of Happy, Texas. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren (Jaclyn, Kaley, Andrew, Elizabeth, Devin, Kyler, Rose, Jade, ‘Kai, and C.J.), 3 grandchildren-in-laws (Cody, Brandon, and Elizabeth), 2 great grandchildren (Adele and Densley), and a host of nieces and nephews who she considered herself bountifully blessed by.
Carolyn’s bright, cheery smile and generosity will be dearly missed by all who knew her and loved her.
