Mike L. Burns, 79 of Amarillo passed away August 4, 2014. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 7, 2014 at Bolton St. Baptist Church with Rev. Leon Green officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery by Memorial Park Funeral Home 6969 I-40 East. Mickey Lee “Mike L.” Burns was born March 23, 1935 in Olive Branch, Illinois to Otis and Goldie Burns. He was the oldest of six children who included his brother Bob and sisters Vera, Thelma, Sandy and Linda. While in high school, Mike enjoyed participating in boxing and track. At 18 he joined the U.S. Air Force. During his service as an Aviation Mechanic he met Pauline Anderson of Amarillo. Their first meeting occurred when she pulled her car out in front of him at the Double Dip on Polk Street. He pulled up to discuss her driving ability and instead asked her out for coffee. They were married on August 28, 1954 in Tucumcari, New Mexico. They lived in Las Vegas where Mike was stationed at Nellis Air Force Base. Here their daughter Sebrina was born. Mike was discharged on December 31, 1956 and he moved the family back to Amarillo. While living in Amarillo his son, Michael was born. During this time Mike worked for Air Speed and ran a service station and also worked in construction. He also spent many years working for the Iron Workers Union. They lived in Waukegan, Illinois and many other places while he was an iron worker. He retired in 1995 and moved back to Amarillo. While retired Mike and Pauline traveled a great deal in their motorhome. They would park and stay anywhere he could go fishing. Mike had a love for racing cars, fishing, hunting, horse shoes and his family. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren in their various hobbies and sports. Mike was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Thelma Little and his brother, Bob. Mike is survived by his wife, Pauline Burns of the home; daughter, Sebrina Yarbrough of Amarillo; son, Michael and wife Cheri of Crescent, Oklahoma; granddaughters, Nicole Agliardo, Crystal Yarbrough, and Tyra Cossette all of Amarillo; grandsons, Tyler Burns and Jaden Burns of Crescent, Oklahoma and Nicholas Johnson and wife Dea of Albuquerque, NM; and great-grandchildren, Hayden Burns of Crescent, Oklahoma and Briahna, Isaak and Gavin Johnson; sisters, Vera Bridges and husband Don of Olive Branch, Illinois, Sandy Wallake of Ohio and Linda Powell of Olive Branch, Illinois; also by numerous nieces and nephews and cousins. great grandchildren Briahna, Isaak and Gavin Johnson
