She was born on April 18, 1931in Kelton, Texas to Horas and Annie Anderson. In her younger school days, Mozzell enjoyed playing basketball and, along with her cousin Virginia, became known as local talent, competing in talent shows in Shamrock, Texas, where their beautiful singing voices were well loved. During those years, Mozzell and her cousin Virginia met two young men who would change their lives forever. Mozzell met the love of her life, Charles Carver, who knew from the moment he saw her that he would one day marry her. His cousin, Jodi, fell in love with Virginia. On a whim, the two couples traveled to Shamrock on December 19, 1947, where both couples were united in marriage.
Mozzell was a homemaker for the majority of her married life, but she also worked several part-time jobs with companies such as TG&Y, JCPenney, and Sears, where she especially enjoyed selling jewelry and cosmetics. She and Charles were married 2 months shy of 75 years and were blessed with 4 Sons of their own and 2 bonus children. Oh the stories of adventures they shared in their life together! They raised their children up in the church, where she became lovingly known as the “Candy Lady,” a name she earned because she always had a stick of gum or a piece of candy for every child. She was well known and will be fondly remembered for her loving smile, kind heart, and infectious laugh. To so many, she was affectionately known as “MawMaw” and “Aunt Mo.”
She was preceded in death and joyfully greeted in Heaven by her husband Charles; sons, Don and Travis; an infant daughter, Sheila Ann; a grandson, Jason; her beloved daughter-in-law, Debbie; a great-great-grandson, Matthew; along with many other cherished family members who went before her.
She is survived by her sons, David Carver, Jerry Carver, and Eddie Byrd and his wife, Beverly; her daughter, Marty Thurman; and her daughter-in-law, Vickie Carver. She is also survived by a beautiful, God-given legacy of many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, too numerous to list, each one deeply loved and holding a special place in her heart.
Faith and Closing:
Mozzell Carver’s life was a testament to love, faith, and joy. She touched countless lives with her smile, her laughter, and her unwavering devotion to her family and church.
