Nana was born July 15, 1929 to Clyde and Mamie Hackleman in Lamesa, Texas. Her mother died when she was 11 months. She was raised by an aunt and uncle, Gertrude and Orval Forbis, with their children Allen and Mary on a farm outside of Lubbock, Texas. She married Loy Burch in 1945 and they moved to Amarillo in 1949 where they were blessed with two daughters, Gail and Jane. She was a wonderful mother in every way and also managed to work part and full time for Levines Department Store in bookkeeping for 25 years, and finished her career working at Leslie Kaitcer, Inc. retiring in 1988. Nana was a long-time member of Second Baptist Church. She loved her church and served in several departments through the many years. When she could no longer attend, she watched them on tv until her death. She had a talent as a seamstress as her mother did. She made most of her and her daughter’s clothes for many years. She was very creative and made several quilts, many ceramic pieces, many crocheted doilies, and other items, and taught herself to paint on birdhouses, small tables with chairs, cabinet and other items. Through the many good and hard times Nana always kept a lovely smile on her face and a hug for everyone. She loved cooking and having company, and everyone especially loved her biscuits and all flavors of her wonderful pies. She was meek and kind, gentle and self-sacrificing, godly and a happy sweet wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and family member. She loved the Lord and shared her faith with Jane and Gail’s friends and most people that she met. Nana and Loy met some great friends at the mall after they retired, and she especially enjoyed her friendship with Juanita and Jack Kemper.
