

Neva Olivia Renfro Smith, 91 of Wheeler passed away May 5, 2012 in Wheeler. Celebration of Life Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at Griggs-Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors Pioneer Chapel with her son, David Renfro officiating. Graveside service will be at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Hereford, with arrangements by Griggs-Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors. Neva was born February 25, 1921 in Hot Springs, AR to John and Cora Hamilton. The family later moved to Paducah, TX, where she graduated from high school in 1939. Following this she began working for Bell Telephone until her marriage to Clyde Renfro in 1940. Neva and Clyde moved to Hereford, TX in 1949 to raise their family and it was there in 1969 that Neva resumed her career with Bell Telephone, with whom she worked until her retirement in 1989. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1979. Neva lived out her retirement in Amarillo, TX and Horseshoe Bend, AR. In 1995 she married Leo Smith and this union lasted until his death in 2005. Neva was a Christian and an avid churchgoer, finding a church home and fellowship wherever she lived. She always loved spending time with her growing family and numerous grandchildren who spent many happy hours together. She enjoyed preparing meals for her family which everyone enjoyed, often driving many miles to share a Saturday or Sunday lunch with her. Neva truly loved having her family around and relished every hour spent with them. Neva was a wonderful loving sister, wife, mother and grandmother. Neva was preceded in death by her parents, her step-mother Elsie Hamilton, her husbands Clyde and Leo, a daughter, Mary Huckert and a sister, Mary Stratton. Survivors include: A daughter, Sue Gallagher of Wheeler, TX and 3 sons, Bob and wife Judith of Baton Rouge, LA, Dickie and wife Dell of Clovis, NM and David and wife LaJuana of Bovina, TX as well as 2 sisters, Shelba and husband Don Lacy of Childress, TX and Selinda Heilig of Denver, CO and 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. Neva will be deeply missed by all and will remain in our hearts forever. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the caring and loving staff of Wheeler Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, especially Kenna Howard (Administrator), Dr. John Lavelle and nurse Melanie Steward for their compassion, loving care and dedication.
