A celebration of Richard's life will be held on Monday, January 14, 2019 from 5:00 - 5:45 pm in the Griggs Schooler Gordon Funeral Director's Pioneer Chapel, 5400 Bell St. in Amarillo. Fellowship and reception will follow in the funeral home from 5:45 - 7:00 pm.
Richard was born on December 18, 1939 in Yuma, Colorado to John and Norma Reynolds. He graduated from high school in Greeley, Colorado and enlisted in the United States Army shortly after. Following the Army, he would hold many different jobs in areas of Law Enforcement before finally retiring as a Border Patrol Agent after two decades of service. He married Christine Nunez in August of 1987 merging two families into one. While not able to go much, he enjoyed a good hunting trip. He loved his horses and dogs that he and his wife had, petting them as a favorite pass time. He loved volunteering with Trinity Fellowship, and would help anyone in need, no matter the circumstance. He didn't travel much, because as he believed, "the missionary funds needed the money more than him", and he believed in supporting those missionary trips.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister in law. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Chirstine, son Alfonso Ortiz III of Amarillo, daughters Cynthia Leis of Colorado, and Julie Bellis of Washington; brothers Kenneth and wife Flo of Alabama, Paul of Colorado, David and wife Cookie of Oklahoma; 11 grandchildren and many loving friends and family.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation be made in honor of Richard to a missionary fund of your choice.
