Rosina Maria Newhouse

Rosina Maria Marinelli Newhouse, 92, passed peacefully on Friday, June 7, 2019 at her home in Amarillo, Texas with her children and loved ones surrounding her as she transitioned to spend eternity with her Heavenly Father.

Rosina’s life will be celebrated and remembered with visitation on Sunday afternoon from 1pm to 3pm with Rosary being said from 3pm to 4pm; and an informal visitation taking place from 4pm to 5pm in the Griggs Schooler Gordon Funeral Director’s Pioneer Chapel, 5400 Bell Avenue in Amarillo. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, June 10, 2019 at 10am at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 4122 S. Bonham in Amarillo. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Rosina was a beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt. She devoted herself to loving and serving her family. Rosina was known for her delicious home cooking, frugal household management and unwavering love and care for her loved ones. She enjoyed trips to Italy to spend time with family and friends over the years and was always up to ‘one more trip’. She also worked as a caregiver for many children over the years and worked as an agent of the ENP (Expanded Nutrition Program). Amazingly, Rosina taught herself how to read and write the English language. She possessed a strong entrepreneurial spirit and was quite successful at buying and selling real estate properties and managing rental properties.

Rosina had a glorious and outspoken faith in her Heavenly Father and The Lord Jesus Christ. Rosina was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and was an active member of the church for nearly 60 years.

Mrs. Newhouse was born on April 15, 1927 in Volturare, Italy the daughter of Stefano Marinelli and Maria Rosaria De Vita Marinelli. As a young girl, she struggled through the challenges of the worldwide depression, the ravages of a Nazi occupied Italy and dreamed of one day, with her young son, of living in America. That dream became a reality when she met and married an Army Air Corps Sergeant. She was united in marriage to Kenneth Karl Newhouse on December 19, 1953 in Foggia, Italy. He preceded her in death March 4, 1994. They were married for 40 years.

She is survived by her children and their spouses; David Newhouse and spouse Patricia Newhouse, Melissa, Texas; Veronica Meloni of the home; Barbara Crawford and spouse Michael Crawford , Katy, Texas; John Newhouse and spouse Emily Newhouse, North Richland Hills, Texas, Anna Newhouse of the home, Michael Newhouse and spouse Beverly Newhouse, Houston, Texas and Anthony Newhouse of the home, 16 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, 13 greatgrandchildren, 3 step greatgrandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren and 1 step great-great grandchild, her sister Maria Meloni of Foggia, Italy, her niece Rosetta Sampieri of Foggia, Italy, and nephew Carlo Meloni of Denver, Colorado.In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her son Americo Newhouse, 1996, her sister Alfonsa Marinelli, 1959, and nephew Alessandro Meloni, 1997.
