

William Frederick Goodwin, 83 of Amarillo passed away July 22, 2014. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 24, 2014 at Comanche Trail Church of Christ with Mr. Loran Harper officiating. Interment will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 I-40 East. William was born April 7, 1931 in Spearman, Texas to John Franklin and Ida Udora Goodwin. He was born and raised in Spearman and after high school he served his country in the United States Navy, aboard the U.S.S. Steinaker. After his military service he returned to Texas and married Valerie DeWeese in Amarillo. William was a salesman for Rosen Wholesale, where he retired after many years of service. He also ran the skating rink in Amarillo at the Fair Grounds. William was a long time member of East Amarillo Church of Christ and at the time of his death he was a member of Comanche Trail Church of Christ. He loved the Lord. William was a man who like to work with his hands and could make absolutely anything with some time and a piece of wood. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be truly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Franklin Goodwin and Ida Udora Goodwin; his wife, Valerie Goodwin; 2 brothers, Robert Leland Goodwin and John Goodwin and a sister, Mary Lou Miller. Survivors include his daughters, Pamela Goodwin Schwartz and Ann Smith both of Amarillo; his son, Robert Martin Carter; granddaughter, Brittany Marlowe Holberg; great-granddaughter, Mackenzie Marlowe Holberg; also by numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the VA Living Center for their loving and devoted care of William while he was in their care.
