

Sam went home to be with the Lord peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, January 13, 2012. Sam was born in Mill Hall, PA, where he enlisted under age in the U.S. Navy in 1943 serving aboard the U.S.S. W.S. Brown during WWII until 1945. He later joined the U.S. Army in 1949 and served as Corporal during the Korean Conflict until 1952. He married Alice L. Rogers, and the moved from Pennsylvania to California in 1963. They first lived in Long Beach, Ca. then moved to Anaheim, Ca. in 1978. He retired in 1987 after being a butcher and sausage maker all of his life. Sam had one son, Steven D. Powers, and one stepdaughter, Jean D. Jordan. He was predeceased by his wife, Alice Powers in 2003, and brothers George and Charles, and sister, Carrie Neese, Thelma Rickley, Barbara Mistyhn, Miriam Beale, Violet Powers, and Nancy Cortelyou. He is survived by his sister, Margaret Yearick, Pa., son, Steven Powers, daughter-in-law, Sineth Powers, stepdaughter, Jean D. Jordan, grandchildren, Charissa Powers, Lilly Thai/Powers, Loran Jordan (wife Kathy), Laura Riel (husband John) and two great-grandchildren, Jon Simmons, and Zachary Riel. A military graveside service and memorial service will be held on Wed., January 25, 2012 at 2:01pm at Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Blvd., Riverside, Ca. 92518 (951) 653-8417
