Alan "Al" Lee Moreland

A Celebration of Life Luncheon will be held on Tuesday, August 27, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. at St Mary’s Catholic Church, 460 NW Washington Ave, Elkhart, IA 50073, please join the family for food and fellowship. Following the luncheon there will be a Graveside Service at Elkhart Cemetery in Elkhart, Iowa at 2:00 p.m. Family is requesting casual attire for all attendees.

Al was born in 1953 to Beryl and Margaret Moreland. He grew up in Farrar Iowa, participating in 4h activities and every sport and school activity imaginable. He graduated from Bondurant Farrar Class of 1971 with the philosophy “Work as hard as you can and you will be successful”.

Al spent 20 plus years working for Napa Auto parts where he met many great friends.

In 1981, he married Pam Moreland and later welcomed daughters, Shelby and Kelli. If you could ask the family pets through the years Al was hands down the favorite by all including his Australian Shepherd, Moose.

You could find Al at various farmers market supporting his cherished friends and showcasing his pumpkins each fall. He loved traveling with his family and friends whether it be road trips a few hours away or a trip to the mountains. As long as he was with the people he loved he was having a great time.

His love for sports continued through the years as an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan, he could be found watching and rewatching every televised game. He put his passion for sports to action when he moved to Carlisle Iowa. Without hesitation Al did it all. Score keeping for football, basketball, soccer, track and field, and his undeniable favorite Carlisle Wildcat Softball. The pride Al embodied for Carlisle Sports did not go unnoticed.

He was honored to be awarded a sportsmanship award on behalf of Iowa/Carlisle High School athletic association, a certified friend to the community, and grand marshal of the 2019 Carlisle High School Homecoming Parade. If you knew Al you knew his support for the Carlisle community ran deep the friendships he gained was icing on the cake.

Al is preceded in the death by his parents Beryl and Margaret (Peg) Moreland as well as his brothers, Edward and Dean Moreland. He is survived by his wife, Pam Moreland; his daughters Shelby Moreland, and Kelli Moreland (Chad Smith & grandson Monte); his brother, Dan Moreland; and bonus sisters, Joyce Shaull, Missy Thompson, and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family and will be given to a charity of their choosing at a later date.
