Allon Bruce Cady

Allon was born on May 2, 1943 in Chicago, IL to Donald and Harriett (Pierce) Cady. He graduated from Elyria (OH) High School in 1961. He enlisted in the US Navy as a corpsman, served on Hospital Ship Sanctuary in the Vietnam War, then in the Naval Reserve for a total of 28 years. Following active duty he earned his B.A. from Wartburg College, where he met Gayla Shepherd. They were married in 1969. Allon & Gayla have lived in the Des Moines area since 1978. During their 45-year marriage Allon worked as an ASCP-certified laboratory technologist, a Boy Scout executive, a District Manager for the Des Moines Register, in customer service at CITI, and as manager of Healing Touch Book & Bible. He retired in 2011.

Allon was an active member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church & Lutheran Church of the Cross in Altoona, volunteering for youth activities, sound & video, & the Jammin’ for Jesus committee. He was also in the SE Polk Kiwanis Club & Altoona Chamber of Commerce. Family & friends will remember Allon for his caring, considerate nature, friendliness, enthusiasm & a flair for dramatic exaggeration. Despite his disease he continued to uplift others with his positive attitude.

He is survived by his wife Gayla, children Donald of Ankeny, Anne (Dan) Ryan of Ankeny, Christin (Brady) Lantz of Des Moines, and 5 grandchildren: Colin & Nicolas Ryan, Jaxon, Xzavier & Lucille Lantz. Allon was preceded in death by his parents, Donald & Harriet Cady.
