Dee Marie Day

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m., Friday, April 22, 2016, at Ankeny First United Methodist Church (206 SW Walnut St, Ankeny, IA 50023). Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 23, 2016, at Ankeny First United Methodist Church with luncheon following. Graveside service will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah, Iowa at 1 p.m., on Monday, April 25, 2016.

Dee was born on May 10, 1926, in Shenandoah, IA to Gorman and Orpha (Fleener) Howell. She graduated from Clarinda High School in 1944.

Her marriage to William “Bill” Day took place October 20, 1946, in Clarinda, IA. They were married for 46 years until Bill passed away in 1992.

Dee was a homemaker for many years taking pride in caring for her five children. She went to work for X-Size Ladies Fashion as manager for years and then later went to work for D & P Lumber Company in Ankeny where she retired from.

Dee cherished her family, she loved entertaining friends and family, nothing stood in the way of her bridge games and she loved cooking, if you showed up at dinner you got fed.

She is survived by her 5 children, Fran (Steve) Ault, Harriet (Donnie) Waters, Mike (Cat) Day, Martha (Ronnie) Sedwich and Kathy (Denny) Williamson. She had 10 grandkids, 3 step-grandkids, 24 great-grandkids, 6 great-step-grandkids and 1 great-great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by parents, 2 brothers, husband, and step grandson.

Dee’s family would like to thank Parkridge Specialty Care and Care Initiatives Hospice for all the care and compassion. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family for a memorial donation at a later determination.
