Born July 11, 1930, in Bancroft, Iowa, he graduated from the Iowa School for the Deaf in 1948, then married Eleanor Adams, living in Des Moines, and then moving to Ankeny to raise 3 sons and 3 daughters.
Gerald retired from Armstrong as a tire builder after 41 years. He enjoyed many activities including bowling, darts, poker, and volunteering in the deaf community. Gerald was a member of the Deaf Club and served as Secretary for many years. He was quick to laugh and had a wonderful sense of humor. Gerald was proud to be an organ donor.
This gentle, sweet man will be missed by his wife, Eleanor of 57 years, children: Tom (Kathy Shuett), Edward (Peg), June, Gary, Nancy (Paul) Wissink and Margie (Rick) Knoll, grandchildren: Kim (Roger), Tracy (Blaine), Dustin (Tammy), Karamee (Josh), Kayla (Joseph), Tim, Mary, Sara, Kris, Jenna, Lindsay, Jackie (Brad), Carly, 8 great-grandchildren and a brother, Bob (Jan).
The family wishes to thank the staff and nurses at Iowa Lutheran Hospital for their devotion and care of our husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to the family.
You are my sunshine, my only sunshine…
