James R. Nell, 72, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, December 16, 2018. Graveside services will take place at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 20, 2018, at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery (34024 Veterans Memorial Dr, Adel, IA 50003) with a luncheon following the service at the American Legion Post 403 (910 Main St, Van Meter, IA 50261).
James was born March 29, 1946, to Paul and Laura (Day) Nell. He graduated from Colfax High School in 1965. James served in the United States Army from January 10, 1966 until being honorably discharged on December 23, 1967. He was stationed in Amburg, Germany and was a chief commander for the 155th Howtzer Artillery. He worked at John Deere for 30 years, retiring in 2002. James was a passionate fisherman throughout his life, but most importantly he was a faithful family man and believer in Jesus Christ.
James is survived by his wife, Pat; daughters: Dawna (Denny) Deakins and Audrey (Chris) Beahr; grandchildren: Kate and Sean Deakins, Allison Beahr and Amanda (Dustin) Johns; great-grandchildren: William, Evan, Lincoln and Conner; one brother, Tony Nell; he is further survived by his step-children: Heath (Tammy) Huff, Christopher (Danae) Huff, Jessica (Tait) Steins and LeAnn (Jason) Creutzman and step grandchildren: Coleson, Leland, Noelle, Calvin, Dylan, Devin and Dax, along with numerous brother and sister-in-laws and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Michele (Mick) Nell; and siblings, Nelpha (Ralph) Owens, Kenny Nell, Jane (Ron) Hopkins, Mary Sliger, John Nell and Joe Nell.
