Lynn J. Seemann, of Ankeny, son of Lawrence & Carol Seemann, was born on June 5, 1955 in Des Moines, IA. He passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, January 4 at the age of 64, after a five-year battle with Multiple Myeloma.
Lynn grew up in rural Woodward and attended Woodward-Granger Community School, graduating in 1973. He began employment at the Massey Ferguson plant in Des Moines, IA. He worked as a spot welder and various other positions until the plant closed. He then worked at the Woodward Resource Center for 30 years, retiring in 2010. While working at WRC, he often worked one or more part-time jobs. He was a rural mail carrier for Woodward; he worked at Caseys General Store in Woodward, the Granger Elevator, and worked demolition throughout the mid-west with a friend. After retiring from WRC, he worked part-time at the Target store in Ankeny for several years.
Lynn was a sports enthusiast, playing Basketball, Wrestling, and Golf in high School. He continued to golf, bowl, play basketball, wallyball, and slow pitch softball for many years. He was also an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan, attending many of their games. He loved playing cards and spending time with family. He enjoyed traveling and took several trips to Myrtle Beach, Las Vegas, and New Mexico. Lynn will be missed for his witty sense of humor, hearty laugh, and his joy for life.
Those left to mourn his passing are his wife, Jennifer of Ankeny; daughter, Mercedes, of Pleasantville; step-children, James Schumacher of Ames; Steve Schumacher and Jessica Salazar, of Ankeny; sister, Cheri (Mark) Finestead of Granger; brother, Lon (Denise) Seemann of Woodward; and several beloved nieces and nephews. Lynn was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Meredith; and older brother, Larry Seemann.
A celebration of Lynn’s life will be held on Wednesday, January 8 from 4-7 pm at the Ankeny Funeral Home & Crematorium. A private burial will be held at a later date at Liberty Cemetery, Cass Township, Woodward, IA. Memorials may be made in Lynn’s name to The Hope Lodge in Iowa City or the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.
