Phillip Morris Ingersoll, age 81, of Ames, Iowa passed away on Sunday, October 10, 2021. He was born May 22, 1940 in rural Maxwell, IA to Albert and Belva (Teed) Ingersoll. Phillip graduated from Boone High School in 1958, and went on to work as a very successful insurance salesman for American Republic Insurance Company. He was also an accomplished craftsman and soon left the insurance industry to open his own business, Ingersoll Painting and Sandblasting. Evidence of his skill at painting, paperhanging, staining, and sandblasting can no doubt still be found in homes and businesses around Iowa.
Phillip loved his grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them. He was also a collector of Ingersoll watches. In his free time Phillip enjoyed furniture restoration, playing cards, camping, and visiting with family and friends.
Phillip is survived by his wife Mary, his daughter Julie (Jody) Ingersoll of Urbandale, his son Joe (Tara) Ingersoll of Polk City; and grandchildren Brianna (Harrison) Dunn, Braeden Ingersoll, and Mahliah Ingersoll (or as Papa affectionately referred to them, Banana, Pal, and Squirt!); siblings Ellen Jennings and Bob (Shirley) Ingersoll; his brother-in-law Bobby White; and many cherished nieces and nephews. Phillip is preceded in death by his parents, two sons John and Jim Ingersoll, and siblings Lois, Richard, Art, Joe, Junior and Everett.
