Virginia Wiley was born on August 4, 1932 in Keosauqua, IA. to George Boss and Cloris Grimes.
A loving man named Frank Wiley later came into Cloris and Virginia’s life. Frank and Cloris married and was a loving dad to Virginia. She was the oldest of eleven children, three sisters and seven brothers. Virginia lived with her grandparents on a farm until the family later moved to Cantril, IA, where she graduated from Cantril High School in 1951. After graduation, Virginia moved to Des Moines for a job in an insurance company Ohio Causality.
During the summer of 1952, she attended the Iowa State Fair where she would meet her future husband, Melvin Sutter of 66 years. They were married on January 8, 1955. Their marriage was blessed by three daughters, Denise, Donita, and Doreen. Virginia was blessed to be a stay-at-home mom with the girls while they were young. They did so many fun things together, like swimming, horseback riding, church, and just spending time together as a family. She loved her three girls and husband. After her daughters were in high school, Virginia took a job at Sunny View Care Center in Ankeny as a CNA. She worked for twenty-one years before retiring. Many friendships were developed in those twenty-one years; Mary Newman was one of her longtime friends. Mom loved going to sporting events to watch her children, then grandchildren. She also enjoyed bowling on a Mercy league for many years with family and friends.
Virginia is survived by her husband, Melvin Sutter; daughters, Denise (Neil) Pitman, Donita (Terry) Barrett, and Doreen (Doug) Shetterly; three sisters, and three brothers. She was blessed with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews, all of who she loved deeply.
Virginia is preceded in death by four brothers and her parents.
Memorial contributions can be addressed to Virginia’s family for later distribution.
