Charles Albert Carver III (Chuck), age 84, of Ann Arbor, MI, stepped into God’s loving embrace on April 17, 2024. Chuck was born on May 20, 1939 to Charles (Jack) Jr. and Evelyn Carver in Flint, MI. During his years at Ann Arbor High, he demonstrated his athletic prowess by achieving state championships in football in ‘55 and in golf in ‘57. Chuck went on to earn a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina in ‘61 and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Michigan Law School in ‘64. He was admitted to the bar in both Michigan and California and began his career in law as an attorney in the San Francisco bay area. Chuck not only diligently served as a practicing attorney, but also explored the entrepreneurial world by owning and managing a chain of local hair salons in the 70’s. Chuck enjoyed a long career and was still reporting to the office until the day he passed away. He was involved in the local real estate community, where he specialized in student housing, and was a long serving member of the Washtenaw County Zoning Board of Appeals. He enjoyed his time as a volunteer at the VA welcoming desk & St. Joe’s emergency room. Chuck was also an adventurous traveler and found joy in using his Spanish speaking talents on trips. As a devout parishioner of the Ann Arbor Baptist Church, he found great comfort in their fellowship.
He is survived by his brother John (Patricia) Carver, sister Candace (Don) Dufek, his confidant in grandparenting, Linda Carver, his daughter Megan, son Charlie (Kallie) Carver, grandchildren Maverick, Callahan, Poppie, and his nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
Chuck and Charlie attended countless U of M games, home and away. Discussing politics and listening to oldies music while headed to away games will always be fondly remembered. As an avid Michigan football fan, we are grateful that he had the opportunity to cheer on the Wolverines as they won the 2023 National Championship by three touchdowns. Megan thanks her Father for instilling a passion for travel and love of the performing arts in her from a young age, along with the importance of establishing life-long friendships. He enjoyed a fantastic group of friends and golf buddies who have been together for decades. His insights, political savvy, and quick wit made every happy hour brighter.
His grandchildren were a tremendous source of joy and pride for him. Chuck was quick to accompany them to dinosaur events, museums, waterparks, state fairs, apple orchards - anywhere his grandchildren went. He was thrilled to see Maverick start school and was amazed with his Presidential knowledge. Callahan’s vocabulary and boundless energy never ceased to amaze him. Chuck was overjoyed to witness Poppie’s first steps and commented endlessly on her beauty. He truly packed in a lifetime of love with Maverick, Callahan, and Poppie.
He will be missed dearly by everyone who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 from 4:00pm until 7:00pm at the Muehlig Funeral Chapel, 403 S. 4th Avenue, Ann Arbor, MI 48104.
