He was born in New Brunswick, NJ, July 22, 1948, and received a B.A. cum laude in Philosophy from St. Mary’s Seminary & University in Baltimore, MD before leaving the Catholic Church in search of personal fulfillment. He found it through two outlets: the profession of psychology, for which he received a PhD in clinical psychology from Long Island University, and through the creation of and care for his family, to whom he was deeply devoted.
Charlie will be remembered for the incalculable contributions he made to his field of forensic psychology. Beyond his private practice, he served at various times as the President of the Michigan Society of Forensic Psychology, the President of the Michigan Psychological Association, Chairman of the American Psychological Association Ethics Committee, and President of the American Board of Forensic Psychology. He had multiple publications and was recognized nationwide as being one of the most respected, trusted, and expert voices in his profession.
Above all, however, Charlie will be remembered as a dedicated and loving father, husband, grandfather, son-in-law, partner, and friend. His colossal intelligence was matched by his gentleness, generosity, and sharp wit. He was a lover of history, obscure trivia, great meals, travel, nature, and spending time with his children. He provided unconditional support to those he loved and laughter to most who knew him.
Charlie is survived by his son, Peter (Leah) Clark of Ann Arbor, daughter Laura Clark (fiancé Sean Rohrer) of Pittsburgh, PA, mother-in-law Elizabeth Kuhn of Ann Arbor, granddaughters Elizabeth and Layla Clark, his partner, Laura Nitzberg of Ann Arbor, brother William (Nancy) Clark of WV, sister Maryann (Jack) Clark-Durrell of NJ, and many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife of 26 years, Beth Kuhn Clark.
A celebration of his life will be held Sunday, September 28 at 2 pm in the Ballroom at the Michigan Union, 530 S State St, Ann Arbor, MI 48109, and is open to the public. An open house will follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Charlie’s name to the Nichols Arboretum, which he loved, at: http://www.lsa.umich.edu/mbg/give/tributes.asp
