White, Douglas J. 2/9/1932 - 5/6/2019 Ann Arbor, MI Age 87. Died May 6, 2019 after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Doug was born on February 9, 1932 and grew up in Chicopee, MA. He earned his Bachelor's degree and Master's of Business Administration from the University of Michigan, following in the footsteps of his father, Austin E. White, who began the Michigan tradition in Doug's family of which he was so proud. Doug served in the US Army and was stationed in the Panama Canal Zone for two years during the Korean War. He had a long career in corporate communications in both the technology and pharmaceutical industries, working for several companies in Southeastern Michigan. Doug enjoyed Michigan sports, spending time with his family, travel, golf, gardening, reading the newspaper, relaxing on his porch and maintaining the landscape around the Ann Arbor home he loved. Doug volunteered his time at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, where he served as a Sunday usher for many years. Outgoing, incredibly kind and curious about others, Doug took a genuine interest in seemingly everyone with whom he crossed paths - always finding a connection. He is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Barbara of Ann Arbor, MI, three daughters, Cynthia Gugino (Peter) of Fairfax Station, VA, Kimberly White (Gianmaria Delzanno) of New York, NY, Carolyn Pasek (John) of Lake Bluff, IL, three sisters, Roselyn Bagley of Stratford, CT, Barbara Hagan and Elizabeth Orlandi (Ronald), both of Westfield, MA, a grandson (Michael Gugino), a granddaughter (Katherine Gugino), numerous nieces and nephews, and caring friends and neighbors. He treasured all of you. The family wishes to express deep gratitude to Arbor Hospice and Doug's medical team at the University of Michigan Hospital. A funeral mass will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Ann Arbor, MI at 11am on Monday, May 13th. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that any donations in memory of Doug are made to Arbor Hospice, 2366 Oak Valley Drive, Ann Arbor, MI 48103 www.arborhospice.org or the charity of your choice.
