Hi, my name is Jacqueline Koehl Rennick.
I was born with Tetralogy of Fallon.  Dr Herbet Sloan performed open heart surgery for a complete correction in 1968.  I am alive today because of his knowledge and skill...He nicknamed me icy because I always wanted ice cubes. 
I'm so sorry to know he is gone from this world.  I hope to see him again someday

Thanks to Dr. Sloan my brother lived for 29 years. Jimmy Rogers was the first infant to half open heart surgery in Sept of 1960.     Thanks to Dr. Sloan I was able to have a great relationship with my older brother.

Dr.Sloan operated on me in 1969 for an Atrial Septal Defect.  I was 36 years old at the time.  I was at the U of M Hospital for 39 days.  There were a few complications.  However, I have had a very good life.  I am 81 years old and have been able to raise my children and enjoy my grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Many thanks to Dr. Sloan for giving me such a wonderful life.  Dr. Sloan was a wonderful surgeon and a very caring man.  My condolences to the family.

Dr. Sloan will always be very special to me. He performed the first infant lobectomy at UM on me in 1952.  My parents were young and scared. Dr. Sloan, with confidence and expertise, saved the life of their daughter.  Thank you Dr. Sloan!  I will never forget you.  My deepest condolences to your family and friends.

Dr. Sloan operated on me in 1961 as a one year old infant on my birthday (quite a present).  He saved my life and I will be forever indebted to him.  God Bless you, Dr. Sloan.  Your life has changed/saved the lives of so many others.  May you rest in eternal peace.

Dr. Sloan operated on me in early 1970 repairing my Tetralogy of Fallot. I am now 48, a pilot, a scouter and a father. Thank you to him, I am here today.

Dr Sloan was a superb surgeon and teacher.  He taught me that understanding the limitations of an operative intervention was equally important as the potential successes.

I was a sickly girl of three and one half years old when Dr. Sloan performed heart surgery on me.  I am now 64 years old and still active with spinning, walking, Zumba and other athletic activities.  I owe it all to Dr.Sloan.

I had the privilege to work for Dr. Sloan in 1970 as a copy editor on the Annals of Thoracic Surgery. I remember him not only as an extraordinary doctor  but as a kind and caring human being. His genuine concern for others made a lasting impression on me. My deepest condolences to Dr. Sloan's family.

iam now 65 and a Viet Nam vet, I guess one could say, he did a GREAT job!!!

As a young new hire into University Hospital, Dr. Sloan treated me kindly and professionally.  I was impressed that a man of such high stature in the University took time to listen to me.  I will never forget Dr. Sloan, and I'm sure there are many of us who won't.  My deepest sympathy to his family.  Dr. Sloan was a scholar, a leader, a healer and a gentleman.

Dr. Sloan was not only an outstanding surgeon, but also a wonderful man. He performed open heart surgery on my Dad, which allowed my Dad to live until the age of 84. My sincerest sympathies go out to his entire family. He will surely be missed by many.

Celebrating a life well lived. We will cherish the memories forever.

To those of Dr. Sloan's family that I had the pleasure to meet, and to those that I did not....I had the dear pleasure to serve Dr. Sloan for the last year of his life on most Saturdays. You are all in my prayers for comfort and precious memories. It was very special to be a part of Dr. Sloan's life.

Dr.and Mrs. Sloan were friends and neighbor of ours and we cherished our friendship.He was an important member of UofM faculty as Doris was a respected and loved docent at the museum of art.We extend our condolences and comiserate with the family. Dorothy and Saeed Farhat.

Dr. Sloan represented the highest standards both professionally and personally.  In his medical career, he set the highest mark and personally, he was the kindest and most loyal of friends.  His generous philanthropy provides a legacy to many parts of the University of Michigan as well as to organizations nationwide. We are fortunate that such a great man has passed through our lives and made such a difference to us all.
