Ilene Marie Carroll

Ilene was born on October 27, 1926 in Detroit, daughter of Camillus and Helen Renier. She was a star basketball player at St. Mary in Redford and continued her love of sports throughout her life. She loved bowling and was an avid golfer. A hole-in-one was the highlight of many great rounds of golf.

She married William Carroll on September 16, 1950 and traveled with him on his Air Force assignment to Morocco where he was a clinic dentist. They enjoyed the travel and adventures in Africa and Europe. Bill and Ilene returned to Michigan where Bill established his dental practice in Ypsilanti, Michigan.

Ilene’s heart and soul was on Mullett Lake in Northern Michigan as well as her worldly travels, when wonderful memories were made. Ilene was a Motor Meals volunteer for 25 years and an active member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish. A Brownie and Girl Scout leader, hardworking member of the Alter Society and bridge and bowling competitor were testaments to her “go getter” personality. That strength sustained her through her battle with Alzheimer’s and her loving kisses and joyous dancing brought smiles to caregivers.

Ilene is survived by her two daughters, Barbara (Eugene) Sanchez and Mary Catherine (Ron) Roux. Four grandsons, Christopher "Ron" Roux, Robert (Lauren) Roux, Matthew Sanchez, Dathan Sanchez, one granddaughter, Joella Johnson and two great-grandchildren, Christopher and Emma Roux also survive. She will be missed.

Friends may visit with Ilene’s family on Saturday – June 16, 2018 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Memorial Mass, 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church 2250 East Stadium, Ann Arbor.
