

Jennie Ann (Morgan) Lombard, 75, of Ann Arbor, Michigan, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, October 16, 2012 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born June 6, 1937 in New York, NY to parents Harold William Morgan and Marjorie Belle Cauffiel, moving to Toledo, OH in 1938 where she spent her childhood. There, she graduated from Woodward High School, and continued her education at the University of Michigan on a full scholarship, graduating with a bachelors degree in mathematics, followed by a masters in education from Eastern Michigan University. She was married to James Lombard, August 20, 1960. She enjoyed a long career in education first for the Wayne-Westland Community Schools (1959-1972), and the Ann Arbor Public Schools (1972), retiring in 2001. Jennie was a dedicated member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ann Arbor, and held leadership roles and was very active in many civic and philanthropic groups including the American Association of University Women, U of M Alumni Association, U of M Sink Group, the First Presbyterian Church of Ann Arbor, Alpha Xi Delta sorority, and more. She devoted herself to raising scholarship money, especially for women, so they could benefit from advanced educational experiences just as she had. She is survived by husband James S. Lombard; son James Henry (Lori Tysdale) of San Diego, CA; daughter Julie (Matt) Ferguson of Grand Blanc, MI; daughter Jean Lombard of San Francisco, CA; grandchildren Heather Lombard, Morgan, UT; Olive and Buzz Ferguson, Grand Blanc, MI; brother-in-law Henry (Marianna) Lombard, Pittsburth, PA; niece Frances (Thomas) Donohue, Pittsburgh, PA; niece Susan (Andrew) Wright, Seattle, WA; niece Mary (David) Richardson, Toronto, ON; nephew Henry (Heidi) Lombard, Hopkinton, MA; nephew Stuart (Andrea) Lombard, Toronto, ON; half-sister Annie Adams and half-brother William Morgan, Phoenix, AZ; as well as many lifelong friends and colleagues. She was a true blue University of Michigan sports fan, a dedicated and doting wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend to all who knew her. She enjoyed traveling, book clubs, women's rights, and traveling with her family to her cottage in the Upper Peninsula. A memorial service will take place Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at 1 PM at the First Presbyterian Church of Ann Arbor, 1432 Washtenaw Ave., Ann Arbor, MI 48104. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Presbyterian Church, University of Michigan Alumni Association, or St. Joseph Mercy Hospital Cancer Center.
