John Albert Bailey “Al” passed away January 25, 2019 at the age of 88. Beloved husband of Mary. Also survived by many cherished cousins, extended family, and friends. He was predeceased by his parents John and Marguerite.
Al was a proud veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and served during the Korean War. He studied History at Notre Dame and Fordham and earned his Doctorate from Georgetown University. Al taught at Providence College, University of Alabama, University of Michigan, Sun-Yat Sen University in China, and Madonna University. He was a member of the American Historical Association, the Organization of American Historians, the Notre Dame Alumni Association, and the U of M Alumni Association.
A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, February 2 at 11am at Al’s long-time church: St. Mary Student Parish, 331 Thompson Street in Ann Arbor. Al will lay in-state from 10am until the time of the service. Memorials can be made to the charity of your choice that will help others.
