At the tender age of two, he was featured in the local newspaper for his attendance at the planning of the Dunbar celebration. In the early fifties John Charles was a member of the illustrious Second Baptist Church young boys choir. He attend Jones and Mack Elementary School, Slauson Jr. High and graduated Class of 1960 from Ann Arbor Pioneer High School.
John Charles tried his hand at a few jobs after high school until he began his 34 years career at Michcon circa 1964. There he earned recognition for his exemplary service including perfect attendance, where he never missed a single day of work.
John Charles married Thelma Lee Robinson as his first wife on July 1, 1960, of this union he fathered, Viola, Juan Carlos, Donald, Monica and Patricia. Many years later on March 25, 1974 John Charles married Helen Marie Senior in Toledo, Ohio. This union added Helen’s children, Gregory, Marsha and George to his parentage.
After retiring in 1998, John Charles and Helen relocated to Phoenix, Arizona, but returned to Ann Arbor every summer to enjoy family and close friends. John Charles was blessed to be able to attend his Fiftieth High School class reunion in 2010 where he socialized with friends from as far back as kindergarten. He enjoyed fishing in Indiana, football, the Blues, and playing cards. John Charles remained in Arizona after Helen’s passing in 2011, where he was lovingly cared for by Marsha, Ronald, Joy and Tatum until his passing in the comforts of his own home.
John Charles Morton was preceded in death by: his parents, John and Lydia Morton, two brothers, Raymond and Richard Morton.
Cherishing his life are his older sister, Cora Evans, all his children, many grand, great-grand and great great-grandchildren, and many other dear family members and friends.
